Pieces of My Career

Writing by the Water

FLAME: WILD HEARTS

His lips give a slight brush against mine. Then he deepens the kiss, taking more, and I give more. His hand curls passively around my neck. None of my past kisses prepared me for this. They’d all been nice… but this…

Liam’s kiss isn’t sweet; it’s demanding and passionate. My body tingles all over. I pull him closer and tangle my fingers through his hair. His arms move to my back, tight against me. Everything else melts away, leaving just us.

I can’t get enough of him, my body on fire. The feeling gets stronger, starting as a small spark then growing to an all-consuming fire. I don’t want it to end. Passion meeting passion, both of us melting into the other.

He pulls back and our eyes meet, each of us trying to figure out what just happened. His lips part in an attempt to say something, but I’m not ready for words. At least not yet. Leaning forward, I crash my lips to his again, and as before we match. Liam nibbles my lower lip and I can’t hold back the moan that escapes.

The crunching of leaves and sticks has us pulling apart in an instant, both of us looking at the other with crazed eyes, out of breath.

REIGNITE: WILD HEARTS

"You caught me. You have once more uncovered my evil plan."
"What are we doing here, Ben?"
"It thought that was obvious. I hope you didn’t pay much for that extra degree. We are dancing."
"Ha. Funny. You know what I mean. Honestly, what are we doing?"
“Megan, let's be honest, you’ve always been the one to make the decisions in our relationship. You decided to start one. Then you decided years later it was over. So, you tell me, Megan, what are we doing here?"
For once in a long time, I don't know what I want or what I should do. We fit. He understands me, and I understand him. The response slips out.
"I don't know."
"That's a first. Megan Jackson, not knowing what she wants."
I open my mouth to say…what I'm not sure, but he gently pushes me away, links hands, and twists me around where I am no longer facing him but the crowd. His body pushes into my back, holding me close. His lips move to the edge of my ear.

THE LIES THAT BIND: DARK LEGACIES

“No, Claire, I don’t. It’s like you have rose-colored glasses with this guy.”
“Because I’m in a good relationship, I’m wearing rose-colored glasses? What the hell, Elijah?”
“There’s something off, Claire. Pay attention, and you’ll see. You’ve always been a good judge. All I’m asking is that you ask a few more questions.”
“Fine, E. Now can I get some sleep. Some of us got stabbed tonight and would like to rest,” I say, waving my hand down my body dramatically.
He wants to say more but thankfully decides against it and simply bends down to kiss my cheek before leaving me in peace. But peace doesn’t come. I can’t get his words out of my mind, and they follow me to my dreams. What if I’m wrong? What if I’m falling in love with an enemy?
